Police Department Employment Application

The applicant must:

 Be 21 prior to being sworn in;
 Be a US Citizen;

  • Be a High School  graduate or obtained GED;
  • Be POST Certified (Missouri Police Officer Licensed) or currently enrolled in a Police Academy;
  • No felony convictions;
  • No more than one DWI conviction; and no DWI conviction in the past three years;
  • May not have in excess of two moving violations from separate incidents within the past twelve (12) months, or be at fault in two or more traffic accidents during the past three years; 
  • May not have used an illegal controlled substance within the last three years.

Process:

Application:

  • All applicants are required to complete an application.  Applications can be obtained from the Ozark Police Department (Monday-Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.) or by clicking the link at top of page.

  • All applicants are required to complete a written examination with a passing score to remain in consideration for the opening(s).
  • The test consists of four sections.
  • A minimum of a 70% in each section is required to receive a passing score. 
    • Arithmetic 
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Problem Solving 
    • Grammar and Writing

Physical Agility Test:

  • All applicants are required to complete and score a passing score on the department’s Physical Agility Test to remain in consideration for the opening(s).
  • The tests consist of the following: 
    • Pushups – Passing Score consists of 20 in 1 Minute.
    • Sit-ups – Passing Score consists of 25 in 1 Minute. 
    • 300 Meter sprint – Passing Score / 1 minute 15 seconds.   
    • 1.5 mile – Passing Score / 17 minutes 1 second.  

Interview: 

  • Oral interview;
    • Performed in panel format;
    • Each applicant is asked the same (structured) set of questions;
    • Panel may follow up with clarifying questions;
    • Applicant can ask questions at the completion of the interview;
    • Applicants will be narrowed down for the remaining process.

Background Investigation:

  • Applicant will complete a Background Screening Booklet if approved for Background Phase
  • At a minimum, the following information will be investigated: 
    • Driver’s License Status/History;
    • Criminal History;
    • Ex Parte - Orders of Protection;
    • Wanted;
    • Employment History and References;
    • Personal References;
    • Minimum Qualifications.

  • The “contingent” offer will require the applicant to complete additional testing. 
  •  Selected applicants must successfully complete: 
    • Polygraph; 
    • Drug and alcohol screening;
    • Physical;
    • Psychological Exam
