Dear Ozark residents,
Mother Nature made quite an impact on the fourth weekend of May, bringing what many are calling the Flood of 2025. Over just four days, we saw 5.27 inches of rain, bringing May’s total to 11.37 inches. For comparison, April’s record-breaking total was 9.58 inches. The last time we experienced flooding like this was back in 2015.
I want to thank the Ozark Police Department for staying on top of things, patrolling streets, and quickly alerting Public Works about flooded areas. Their teamwork helped keep residents safe, including soccer families at the park who received timely warnings as water rose approximately a foot per hour.
Public Works quickly set up barricades and, more importantly, staffed our two wastewater treatment plants around the clock. During storms like this, those systems need hands-on oversight.
A big thank you to the Parks & Rec crew for helping to move equipment and supplies out of the flood zone before waters surged through the park.
Like many of you, I walked the Jackson Street Bridge and down to the park, watching the incredible force of the Finley River. It reminded me why Missouri is called the Show-Me State - we want to see it for ourselves.
Most importantly, no injuries or lives were lost. For that, I’m truly grateful.
