Don Currence was elected Mayor of the City of Ozark in April 2023.
Mayor Currence is the Administrative Pastor at First Baptist Church in Ozark, Missouri, where he has served for the last thirty years. He is the volunteer Ozark Police Department Chaplain and the interim Fire District Chaplain.
Mayor Currence has been a member and officer of the Kiwanis Club of Christian County for over twenty-five years. And for the last fifteen years, has served as chairman of the OACAC program of Christian County. He has also been a member of the Ozark Chamber of Commerce and has served on several Strategic Long Term Planning Sessions with the Ozark School District.
Besides his local service, Mayor Currence serves as the Registration Secretary of the Southern Baptist Convention. He has recently served as a trustee, board member and state alumni officer for the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. In previous years, he has served in state and associational leadership roles in the states of Louisiana and Missouri.
Previously, Mayor Currence served at the First Baptist Church in Houston, Missouri, as Associate Pastor, the Bayou Vista Baptist Church in Morgan City, Louisiana, and the Coteau Baptist Church in Houma, Louisiana.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri, and his master’s degree from the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mayor Currence has been married to Cheta Currence for thirty-two years, a retired school librarian, currently working part-time at the Ozark Christian County Library. They have two daughters, Hannah and Leah, who will both graduate from college in May of 2023.
