Board of Aldermen
To become an Alderman in Ozark, you must be at least 21 years old, live in the city for at least one year before election day, and reside in the specific ward you're running from when you apply. If someone is interested in running for Alderman, they must go down to City Hall and fill out all necessary information with the City Clerk to be put on the ballot.
The Board of Aldermen can do two main things:
- Resolutions: They can decide whether to accept or reject resolutions and formal statements about what the city wants to do.
- Ordinances: They can also accept or reject ordinances, which are official laws for the city.
When making these decisions, the Aldermen follow a certain process. First, someone makes a motion to adopt (or accept) the resolution or ordinance. Then, another person has to second (or agree with) the motion. After that, they discuss the issue to better understand it. When everyone is ready, someone will "call the question," which means it's time to decide. Finally, they vote to make the final decision.
The Board of Aldermen meets on the first and third Mondays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 205 N. 1st St., Ozark, MO.
