Ozark, Mo. - The City of Ozark officially broke ground on a transformative infrastructure project, the Chadwick Flyer Trail pedestrian overpass over U.S. Highway 65. City leaders, project partners, and invited guests gathered at the construction site to celebrate the start of a project that will enhance safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists.
The bridge will provide a safe crossing over the busy highway while honoring the historic Chadwick Flyer Railroad route. Once completed, the bridge will become a key segment of the broader Chadwick Flyer Trail, part of the region’s expanding trail network that promotes multi-modal transportation, outdoor recreation, and regional connectivity.
“This project represents years of collaboration and vision,” said Ozark Public Works Director Jeremy Parsons. “We’re proud to be part of something that not only preserves the history of our region but also builds a healthier, more connected future for our residents and visitors.”
Joining City of Ozark staff and elected leaders, the event brought together several partners including CMT Engineering, Missouri Department of Economic Development, Missouri Department of Transportation, Ozark Greenways, Ozark School District, Ozarks Transportation Organization, Ozark Chamber of Commerce, Radmacher Brothers Excavating, Show Me Christian County, and other stakeholders who have played a key role in planning and funding the project.
“This is more than just a bridge,” said Ozark Mayor Don Currence. “It’s a vital link that, when finished, will connect miles of trail that invite exploration on foot or by bike, from downtown Ozark all the way toward Springfield.”
The Chadwick Flyer Trail project continues to receive strong support from local and regional partners as southwest Missouri establishes itself as a hub for outdoor activities and trail-based transportation.
Construction remains on schedule, with completion expected by Spring 2026.
