City of Ozark to Hold Informational Meetings on Charter Commission

Charter Commission Meetings

Ozark, Mo. - The City of Ozark is inviting residents to learn more about an important step in shaping the city’s future. Two informational meetings will be held for citizens interested in serving on the 2026 Charter Commission.

Dates: October 14 & October 21
Time: 5:30 – 6:30 p.m.
Location: City Hall Council Chambers, 205 N. 1st Street, Ozark, MO 65721

In April 2026, Ozark voters will decide whether to adopt a charter form of government. If approved, voters will also elect 13 citizens to serve on the Charter Commission, which will be tasked with drafting the city’s charter. The commission will meet monthly (or more often as needed) to prepare the draft, which will be presented to voters in April 2027.

What is a Charter City?

In Missouri, a charter city operates under its own locally written constitution, called a charter, rather than solely under state statutes. This allows citizens more flexibility and local control over how their city government is structured and operates, from elections to administration. Essentially, it gives residents the power to design a government that best fits the needs of their community.

Residents interested in serving or simply learning more about the process are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming meetings.
