Ozark, Mo. -- The Ozark Community Center (The OC) is taking steps to increase safety and security for everyone entering the facility, as well as the Grubaugh Outdoor Pool.
On April 1, 2024, The OC implemented the Raptor Visitor Screening system. This system checks visitor's information against databases related to sex offenders and individuals involved in the endangerment of a child. This is an evolution of the previous process in which The OC worked closely with Christian County law enforcement to screen individuals manually.
The new procedure is designed to be quick and easy, taking roughly 30 seconds to complete. Current members will continue to scan their membership cards as usual. When it is time to renew the membership, they will need to provide a valid government-issued photo I.D. to be scanned through the Raptor system. Day-pass users and visitors must provide a government-issued I.D. to be scanned before entering.
"This new system helps keep the children and teenagers that come to The OC every day safe," said Front Desk Coordinator Crystal Kellar." "We have roughly 40 to 60 kids who walk over from the Junior High after school and many more who come with their parents or on their own, if old enough, throughout the day. This system will help keep predators out of the building and keep everyone's children safe."
If the Raptor system flags an individual, they will be asked to leave the facility, and staff will take appropriate action per the facility's policies and in compliance with the law.
By utilizing the Raptor system, The OC hopes those using the facilities continue to feel secure without concerns about potential threats.
